Deputy Chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar has pledged to introduce good governance mechanisms by enabling regulatory bodies to hold regular meetings and take decisions without interruption.

In an interview with APP on Thursday, he outlined the university’s progress in various areas, from new initiatives to governance. He also emphasized the importance of good governance and new initiatives as university priorities.

According to Dr Niaz, the proper functioning of these institutions will build trust among and help the institution achieve its goals more effectively. Within three weeks of Dr Niaz Ahmed joining the university, meetings of the Finance and Planning Committee, Selection Board and Society were held.

Dr Niaz Ahmad is a distinguished scholar and academic who holds a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Leeds, UK. He has held prominent academic positions for many years. He recently took on the responsibilities of vice-chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University. Dr Niaz identified financial sustainability and resource acquisition as the university’s two biggest challenges.

He said registration of weighing stations across the province were being made with the cooperation of Punjab Information Technology Board and private weighing stations shall be integrated with the database of government to keep an eye on the road traffic situation in the province.

He ordered to conduct a comprehensive study with regard to overloaded vehicles on the roads. The meeting was briefed that the challah and its payment has been finalised with the help of Punjab Information Technology Board. The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Industries and Commerce, Additional Secretary Transport, PITB chairman, Industries DG and others. QAU VC stresses good governance
