PM summons AGP ahead of Punjab polls

ISLAMABAD: REFERENCES: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday summoned Attorney General (AGP) Mansour Usman Awan ahead of a Supreme Court hearing after the government failed to release funds for provincial elections.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court declared the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to postpone polls in Punjab “unconstitutional” in a blow to the government which had sought to postpone provincial elections saying that he’s worried about security and the economic crisis. . . . .
The three-judge bench – headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Monic Akhtar and Justice Ijazul Ahsan – also set May 14 as the date for polls in the province and ordered the federal government to provide 21 billion lei for … target until April 10.
The Prime Minister’s Office subsequently instructed the finance ministry to prepare a brief, in consultation with the law ministry, for parliamentary guidance on the matter. The National Assembly later on Thursday decided to oppose the allocation in violation of the SC orders and triggering a fresh rift between the judiciary and the government amid months of political and economic turmoil.
Furthermore, Somy also stated, “I want Mr Khan to look at himself in the mirror and ask himself this question: How can you say that you have never hit me or abused me? How can you live with yourself, knowing that I’ve done these things and blatantly denied them and then have the audacity to ban my show? Shame on you. I hope that you find the grace in yourself to apologise publicly and to confess what you have done.”
Feroze himself has been embroiled in a similar ordeal. His ex-wife, Syeda Aliza Sultan submitted evidence in court of having suffered alleged physical abuse at his hands. Many celebrities, including Feroze’s co-stars, spoke up in Aliza’s favour in the aftermath.
