Babar Azam is named Pakistan’s T20I and ODI captain by PCB

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Sunday that Babar Azam, a cricket player from Pakistan, has been reappointed as the team’s captain for the white-ball matches.
The team decided to replace the captain in advance of the Green Shirts’ five-match Twenty20 International series against New Zealand, which kicks off on April 18.
The PCB announced on X, the previous Twitter, that “Babar Azam has been appointed as white-ball captain.”
“Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has named Babar Azam as the men’s cricket team of Pakistan’s white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain, per the unanimous recommendation of the PCB’s selection committee.”
After the embarrassing World Cup campaign, the 29-year-old batter announced his resignation from all captaincy roles in November of last year, capping his years-long tenure in the top spot.
The former captain faced criticism for several months prior to his dismissal. Pakistan had performed poorly in the Asia Cup and carried that form into the World Cup, where they were eliminated before the semifinals.
In an earlier TV programme, former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq expressed his worries about Azam’s ability to lead the squad, saying that Azam should just concentrate on playing. The host warned Razzaq about the possible consequences of his remarks after they generated a lot of conversation.
Azam’s captaincy record has come under further criticism after former fast bowler Wahab Riaz voiced doubts about it. Riaz pointed out that Azam has not won any big matches in the ICC or ACC during his time as captain.
