Bulldozer Action Against Illegal Film

Mumbai: Bulldozers have reached Mumbai’s Malady area to demolish dozens of illegally constructed film studios, which the BJP said were built under the patronage of the Visas Agadir government. The Municipal Corporation, the governing body of the Maharashtra capital, took action following an order by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
BJP’s Karat Somalia, who has been raising the issue for a long time, was seen going to the spot with his supporters with a shovel. He alleged that the studios were built without permission and on the basis of fraudulent documents, in violation of the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA).
The NGT Western Zone bench on Thursday lifted the stay on the demolition of five studios in Mad Island, while rejecting an application by the studio operators and barring them from further operations. Mr. Somalia said that BMC Commissioner Iqbal Chadha was aware of this illegal scam but no action was taken.
“We have approached the court, questioning the BMC as to how the illegal constructions were allowed,” he said, adding that they have asked the prime minister and deputy prime minister to investigate. These five studios had received permission for a temporary structure, but they had built a huge structure using a lot of steel and concrete.
