KARACHI: A police officer was shot with a gun and lost his cellphone during a robbery attempt close to Seaview in Karachi, according to ARY News on Wednesday.

Sub-inspector Zaheer said in a statement that two unidentified criminals approached him while he was crossing the street and stole his cell phone.

When the officer halted, the thieves started shooting at him before making off.

While a more thorough investigation was being conducted, the police claimed that the injured officer did not belong to the South Zone. The injured officer was attending to business at a foreigner’s home.

It is important to note that street violence in the port city is increasing by the day, and no one is safe from robberies these days, including police officers.

Two Karachi police officers were robbed near Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station earlier in June.

According to authorities, the two officers, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a constable, were robbed of two handguns and a motorcycle.

When contacted, Gulshan police stated that they had identified the criminals and would retrieve the goods shortly, which is why the case has not been lodged.

The robbers opened fire on the cop when the latter stopped, and then managed their escape.

The police said that the injured policeman did not belong to the South Zone while further investigation was underway. The injured cop was performing his duty at a foreigner’s house.

It is pertinent to mention here that street crimes are rising in the port city with every passing day and no one is safe from the robbers these days, including policemen.

Earlier in June, two Karachi policemen were robbed near Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station.
