KOHIMA: On Tuesday evening, huge rocks rolled down a hill in Nagaland’s Chumoukedima district between Dimapur and Kohima, crushing cars in a horrifying video that resulted in at least two fatalities and three injuries.
Around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, amid intense rain, a rockslide event was reported to have occurred on National Highway 29 close to the Old Chumoukedima police checkpoint.Two cars that were coming were completely destroyed by the enormous rocks, and one of the boulders also overturned another vehicle. A car waiting behind has a dashboard camera that recorded the horrifying footage.
An Indian news organisation, ANI, posted the video, which showed a huge rock rolling down and hitting the cars one after the other, smashing them into a pile of metal.A second later, another rock can be seen tumbling down and striking a third vehicle, which then overturned and struck a nearby truck.
According to officials, one person passed away immediately, while another person died from their wounds while receiving care at the Referral Hospital.The rescuers were attempting to free a second victim who was trapped inside one of the autos. At the hospital, the three injured are receiving medical attention.
Neiphiu Rio, the chief minister of Nagaland, expressed his condolences for the deaths and noted in a tweet that the catastrophe occurred in a location known as “pakala pahar” that is notorious for landslides and rockfalls.The chief minister declared that his administration is making every effort to get injured people the emergency care and medical attention they require. Each victim’s family has also been promised financial support in the amount of Rs4 lakh.
Another person was stuck inside one of the cars and the rescue workers were trying to bring him out. The three injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
