
Mohmand Dam’s timely completion is essential

LAHORE: Lt Gen (Retd) Sajjad Ghani, Chairman WAPDA, today inspected the progress of the Mohmand Dam Project’s ongoing development and gave the contractor instructions to guarantee that the diversion system is finished in time for the impending low-flow season for the River Swat.
The chairman examined a number of construction sites during his visit, including concrete work being done on the spillway’s upper stilling basin, work being done on the dam’s left and right abutments, and other parts of the diversion system, including diversion tunnels. GM and PD Mohmand Dam Project, as well as consultants and contractors, were with him.
The diversion scheme schedule, resource-loaded programs for quarry development, stockpiling, dam filling, and an activity-wise resource-loaded program for the overall project were the topics of discussion in a subsequent briefing. To ensure the project’s prompt completion, Ghani emphasized the significance of meeting important milestones on time and urged the project team, in especially the contractors, to make coordinated efforts.
The project is expected to be finished by 2026–2027.It seeks to store water for agriculture, regulate flooding, provide urban water supply to Peshawar, and produce hydel energy in an environmentally responsible manner. It is the fifth-highest concrete-face-rock-fill dam in the world.
