ISLAMABAD: Chinese companies have shown great interest in importing meat, chili and other food products from Pakistan, and some have said they are ready to relocate their industrial operations to the country, said Ghulam Qadir, the embassy’s trade adviser from Pakistan to Beijing. Qadir led a delegation of around 110 Chinese representatives from Beijing and neighboring provinces to the International Food and Agriculture Exhibition in Karachi.

In order to promote economic cooperation, the Pakistani Embassy, in collaboration with consulates in Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shanghai, attracted Chinese companies to the event. The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) organized the exhibition in which various Chinese seafood and grain industry associations actively participated following the signing of protocols for the import of meat, chilies and other products.

With the theme “Growth of a Sustainable Future”, this year’s exhibition aims to unite international and local communities, creating hope for common progress. Qadir pointed out that the Chinese delegation participated in business-to-business (B2B) meetings and showed great satisfaction in exploring new opportunities and establishing strategic partnerships with Pakistani counterparts.

Qadir expressed optimism that the event would serve as a prominent platform for industrial giants from Pakistan and China to showcase their offerings to potential buyers. “This occasion is also a valuable opportunity for the Chinese delegation to build cooperation with local companies and maintain close relations with Pakistani customers. Moreover, these companies can capitalize on this event to enter new markets and increase their market share in the country,” he said.

The Belt and Road Initiative has greatly expanded the horizons of Pakistani traders, facilitating their expansion into the vast Chinese market. A recent example of this budding collaboration is the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between China’s Litong Group and the Pakistan Army.
