Women in Iran have won a major win by being allowed to watch
The reintroduction of female supporters to stadiums for premier league games in Iran this year, according to the country’s football chief, marks a significant success for women despite the long-standing prohibition on attending football events.
Despite the fact that no legislation prohibits women from entering stadiums for football and other sporting events, the country has mainly prevented them from doing so since the 1979 Islamic revolution.
“This year, one of the prominent features of this league… will be the entry of women into stadiums,” stated Mehdi Taj, president of Iran’s Football Federation.
The news was made at the drawing ceremony for Iran’s top-level football season, which will include 16 clubs and begin next month.
