Indus Amidst the flood of misinformation, a baseless rumor has spread like wildfire in the country that Indus Motor Company (IMC), one of Pakistan’s leading car manufacturers, is permanently halting production and closing its manufacturing facilities. However, IMC immediately clarified the situation and explained that the temporary stop was merely routine and production has since resumed.

Dispelling the lies, IMC said the reason for the closure was limited inventory and delay in opening letters of credit (LC). He stressed that the production units suspended operations until June 8 as part of the normal business cycle.

Ali Asghar Jamali, managing director of Indus Motor Company, told The Express Tribune that the company plans to introduce new models, including a locally produced hybrid SUV, which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 35%. He emphasized that this landmark achievement will have a significant impact on the environment, fuel consumption and localization efforts in Pakistan.

The upcoming hybrid SUV, designed with 35% reduced carbon emissions, will be the country’s first locally produced vehicle of its kind.

Senior automotive expert Zafar Ali highlighted that IMC has invested more than $100 million by September 2021 to produce HEVs locally with a high localization level, especially in the SUV category. Despite the current challenges facing the industry, the production of locally produced hybrid cars is a significant milestone for the entire automotive industry.
