Polling concludes

Local body (LB) elections in 24 districts of Sindh, including Karachi, were held on Sunday. Voting continued from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., without a break .A total of 434 candidates are in the fray for 63 seats of various categories. Elections will be held for 11 seats of Union Council (UC) president, vice-president and 15 ward member seats in Karachi division.

Candidates of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are contesting the LB elections while the Mettahida Qaumi Movement- Pakistan (MQM-P) has dismissed the one local government election. A total of 449 polling stations and 1,586 seats were set up for the elections. No single polling station was ‘normal’ as 292 were classified as sensitive and 157. CCTV cameras were also installed in more sensitive polling stations, while more than 7,000 police officers were on duty ‘choose. Moreover, the number of male and female voters was 690,295.
