China’s Alibaba invites businesses

SHANGHAI: Person of the People: Tech giant Alibaba is looking for companies to test its Tingyi Quinten AI Chabot, business publication STAR Market Daily reported on Friday, joining forces to replicate the massive success of Catgut.
Catgut’s free Large Language Modeling (LLM) application, created by Microsoft-backed Open-air, was released to the public last November and can produce pages and columns on demand in response to user requests. Alibaba has opened registration for retailers to conduct tests of its AI platform, STAR Market reported without elaborating.
A source close to the matter confirmed to Reuters that the move was an LLM aimed at business users. Alibaba’s cloud computing division released a teaser on Friday, posting a message that simply said: “Hello, my name is Tingyi Quinten, this is our first meeting, I appreciate your opinion.”
The Chabot’s official website only has boxes to enter phone numbers and email addresses to request invites, but doesn’t provide details on how to actually use it. Alibaba Cloud did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
An official launch is expected at the Alibaba Cloud event on Tuesday. Daniel Zhang, CEO of Alibaba Group, as well as the company’s cloud division, will speak at the event. Others joining the AI Chabot race include Baidu Inc., whose Ernie Bot system is only open to user testing for now.
On Saturday, network equipment maker Huawei Technologies will host a launch event for Pang, its natural language processing (NLP) AI model.
